Bayrss Review - eBay Wordpress Plugin

Who among you like and use eBay for an affiliate partner. For me, eBay has been very good to me with concerns to affiliate marketing. They have been consistent and have proved themselves as being very reliable. The problem that I have found in using the program is that when using a blog format, they just did not have many tools that would transpose live auctions into a format that would fit into a blog post. This kind of bugged me for a while, and a one time I thought about writing a plugin that would solve this problem. But as I have said many of times, I am very lazy when it comes to writing new code. I just don’t want to spend the time to code anything new. One of my downfalls… So, for a long time I just linked directly to eBay pages in all my sites. But that process if very tedious. It involves going to eBay and searching for what I am looking for, taking that URL and cut and pasting it into the eBay flexible re-direct tool. Which would spit out a affiliate URL....

Integrating WordPress Into PHP Scripts

Overview Today, I had to use a custom PHP script that I created a while ago in a new WordPress application. Instead of developing a WordPress plugin to handle this existing code, I choose instead to use WordPress directly inside my script. Using WordPress inside your script is a great option if you have a lot of custom PHP code. When you have a large PHP code base from your previous development efforts. There are typically other libraries inside your code, such as Symfony, Zend Framework, Pear, etc, that you don’t want to take apart. You have working code and you want it to stay together. In my case, I had created a form for data collection for a client. But this was no ordinary form. It had over 100 form variables. They were made up of text input, radio boxes, checkboxes, and textarea’s. I wanted to use this form directly inside my WordPress application. Plus I wanted the integration to easy. The solution was actually quite simple. Existing PHP Code For example, assume this...

Trouble With WordPress But Success At Last!

I’ve had a – I was going to say a love/hate relationship with WordPress, but it’s pretty much just been a hate relationship with it, over the last couple of years. I consistently found my blogs were offline, had Internal Server Errors, were very slow to load (some page load times exceeding 60 seconds). And in addition to all that, I hosted the sites with what turned out to be some very bad choices for webhosts which resulted in some sites going offline for weeks and others going offline permanently with no access to backups to resurrect them. What can I say? It’s been a learning experience. Lesson learned: Always download backups of your sites from your server to your PC; you just never know when you’ll need to use them! 1. Blaming WordPress I used to blame WordPress for all the trouble my sites suffered from. I blamed it for being a resource hog (which it is if you add any number of plugins), buggy (more because of plugin conflicts and WordPress updates br...

Why I Chose A WordPress Hosted Site

There’s no doubt about it, WordPress is a remarkable platform for publishing, but beware the pitfalls of self-hosted blogs and websites. I struggled for about two and a half years with my WordPress.org self-hosted site. The issues were unstoppable, and the forums to mend the problems, equally unstoppable. You find yourself getting entwined in an ever-deepening maze of ‘solutions’. The blog is too slow? speed it up with a plugin! Insecure? Protect it a plugin! Plugins giving you problems? Sort them out with a plugin? Alternative, take a masters degree in WordPress coding and sort these issues out yourself. There are more plugins and coding solutions available than most of us have had hot dinners, but quite often they add to the dilemma, rather than taking it away. Then you get kind of obsessed with one issue or another. Mine was site speed . I thought, ‘oh, I must ensure it loads in less than two seconds or no one will stick around to see it.’ I tested it o...

Linux Secrets

The first thing that you will notice about Linux Red Hat (using the Gnome Interface) is that it looks a lot like Windows 95/98/NT. But that’s where the similarity ends. Linux requires a whole new set of commands as well as a new way of thinking about things. For instance, in Windows 95/98 you can adjust monitor or screen properties by just a few key strokes. With Linux, however, in order to adjust the monitor settings, you have to run a program called Xconfigurator. And there is no information anywhere as to how to do this. It is one of these secret things that Linux users don’t worry about because “everyone knows how to do it”. Those of us changing from Windows to Linux have a need to know these things. Let me tell you the secret: You have to be logged in as “Root” then you exit to the terminal. Now this looks like a DOS shell, so Windows users don’t get too confused. Then at the # prompt type in Xconfigurator. Then you are taken to a configura...

Automatic Installs of Turnkey Linux Appliances on Virtual Private Servers

(Or How to set up a fully working Joomla, Drupal, LAMP, LAPP, Zimbra, Torrent server etc., in a couple of minutes) Turnkey Linux comprises a set of free, Ubuntu-based software appliances that are primarily available for server-type usage scenarios, such as setting up database, web, forum, wiki and photo gallery servers. Each appliance is preconfigured to work out of the box, with ease of use being the primary goal behind the Turnkey Linux project. This is extremely useful in itself, but if you wanted to experiment with these appliances, potentially to evaluate or otherwise test them, it would be great if you could perform installations with the absolute minimum of effort. Using Turnkey Linux on Virtual Private Servers A number of hosting providers out there provide Linux VPS services, which usually enable users to have their own virtual server with automatic provisioning of major Linux distributions, such as Debian, Ubuntu or CentOS. Work has been performed in conjunction with the Tu...

Microsoft Access Database: The 5 Most Common Tasks in Understanding an Access Database

I’m often hired to carry out and audit an Access database application that has been built and re-developed over the years due to: The developer (perhaps a former employee) has since left the organisation and left no documentation. An individual has accidentally locked a database and can not gain access which requires an official ‘hack’. Some of the components to the Access database has been lost and users need some new functions added. New administrators have been given a database and do not have enough knowledge to extend the system reports. The client wants an honest opinion on how well (or poorly) designed an Access database has been built and implemented. But with a little bit of training and know how, there are some basic but simple tasks that users can carry out for themselves to breakdown and understand an Access database before calling in the repairman/woman. I have 5 common tips to help you on your way: With most well designed Access database systems, you norm...

What Does WP Mean in Solar Panel Technology Or Ratings on a Solar Panel?

If you’re upgrading or thinking of upgrading to a solar powered energy system for your home then you’re probably seen the designation “WP” on certain components. This marking usually has a number next to it and a rating for the system. This has caused many people some confusion as they aren’t sure what exactly WP means. WP means “Watts Peak” and is the rating given for the total wattage output when the system is operating under perfect conditions. Your system won’t always operate at this level of performance as there are too many environmental variables to take into consideration. However once in a while you’ll have that perfect day where everything will be calm, quiet, and sunny which will result in your system producing this amount of power. Now don’t get excited and start slamming panels with high WP ratings all over your roof. There are other parts of your system involved with converting this energy and if their WP rating i...
