Platform Independence - Is It Important to Your Mobile Life?

Push technology can help you get and stay connected while on the go. If you’re someone who is on the move that communicates with others, synchronized data is going to be important. When you use a smart phone for business use or for pleasure, the right tools can help you immensely. Your phone needs to be able to talk to your server at work, for instance, so that you can get your email and access your online shared work calendar.  Today, there are more cross platform tools available than ever. When you sign up for a mail synchronization solution, you’ll want something that is platform independent. The world is moving toward platform independence, isn’t it?  Your coworker doesn’t have to have the same cell phone as you for you to both be able to access the calendar to find out about the team meeting for tomorrow morning that was moved an hour earlier. Importance of Cross Platform Interoperability. Very few companies have homogeneous IT environments. But there was ...

Divorce Recovery Mindset Choice No. 4: Is Your Divorce A Past Life Event or a Current Way of Life?

Signs that Your Ex is Still a Presence in Your Life When asked about their divorce, practically everyone says, “I’ve moved on” – and then they proceed to talk about what a jerk their ex was. Then they may make “harmless” comments about the “questionable character” of the person the ex is dating. Often the “if only’s” give it away: If only my ex had done this, or if only he or she hadn’t done that, my life would be better. And then there is “The Wedding.” Not your ex’s wedding; not your wedding. Your child’s wedding! And the nightmare-inspiring fear that you will have to miss it. Why? Because your ex will be there! All these are indications that your divorce is still an integral part of your present life. They mean you may not have “moved on” as much as you would like to believe. In fact, you could be treating your divorce as a part of your ongoing way of life. Remember: If you are...

Life Insurance Fraud

Life insurance fraud is a black eye on both life insurance companies and life insurance customers. Both parties have been guilty of life insurance fraud and will be again–especially since, sadly, fraud seems to be on the rise according to most statistical measures. Research by the non-profit The Coalition Against Insurance Fraud concludes that life insurance fraud committed by all parties costs an average household $1650 per year and increases life insurance premiums by 25%. Life insurers are most often guilty of insurance fraud in the form of their agents doing “churning”. This is where the agent seeks to cancel your existing life insurance policy and replace it with a new policy that is paid for by the “juice”, or cash value, in your existing policy. Agents do this to earn more commissions for themselves without having to seek new prospects for business. Churning can result in increased premiums for a customer and clearly costs them out of their cash valu...

The Life of an Event Planner - Dealing With Difficult Clients

Clients are the lifeblood of any business and in a perfect world, they are pleasant, kind and respectful people but in the real world, some are often “challenging”, a euphemistic word for the acronym PITA (“Pain in the A$$”)!! A very good friend of mine, also an event planner, bought me a gift to set on my desk, a little pottery jar that said “Ashes of Problem Clients”. In less than ten seconds after receiving it, the ashes of several clients came to mind and I became inspired to write about my experience as an event planner. I have been in the hospitality business for thirty-nine years; twenty-five of which have been in event planning. After I planned my first event, I was hooked. I loved the creative aspect of planning a function, the excitement of meeting people from all over the world, working without outside vendors and entertainers, and arranging corporate dinners, receptions, themed productions and social functions. Obviously the ultimate goal ...
