Computer Science: It Is Not Programming But Problem Solving

I have had the pleasure and the opportunity to do one of my favorite hobbies in the past two years, and that is teaching. I have had the opportunity of teaching several different topics in the field of computer science, from introductory courses to upper division courses, and I have seen a pattern along the students which has been a puzzle for me especially in the upper division classes. One of the main surprising facts I have noticed, is that most of the students have little or no practical experience in software development, especially in the upper division classes. That is, they have not been given enough opportunity to do hands on projects to improve and fine tune their programming skills in the lower division classes, and when they take courses such as Software Engineering, most of them don’t have the ability to create a fully functional system from the ground up. Now I can understand if this is the first year for the student and they are just starting out and getting to know...

Neuro Linguistic Programming Benefits: Secrets Of Becoming A Successful Business Executive

Neuro linguistic programming or NLP is a technology that engages the mind and the body in its approach, incorporating the subconscious and conscious levels of awareness to overcome obstacles and to achieve goals. It is applied in life coaching to treat bad habits such as smoking, drinking, as well as eating problems. NLP is also applied in executive coaching to help executives face obstacles, make wise decisions and achieve success. Executive coaching will help the business executive align himself to become successful. It will also help him to become motivated and gain his full potential to achieve full success. It will teach him to change his out-dated behaviors and learn how to increase the positive ones. Executive coaching that employs NLP will make him manage his thoughts, behaviors and moods far better than the common means of executive coaching. It will also help him communicate more effectively with his subordinates. As a business executive, he will need coaching on leadership a...

Object-Oriented Design-Programming - How We Objectify in Our Culture

What a title. Well, is this a technical article, or isn’t it? It’s a view of culture, psychology, and their influence on technology. If this matter has been addressed before, it wasn’t in any of the articles that came to my attention at this writing. Object-Oriented design in software development has been a convenience, a problem solver, a boon that makes a wide range of applications possible and practical. But where does the idea come from, really? Don’t answer “Bjarne Stroustrup;” he was just a point of crystallization. If it hadn’t been he, someone else would have conceived of it eventually — I believe it’s in our nature to lean in that direction. Look at our modern (at this writing) culture, and its antecedents. We have a tendency to objectify everything. It’s cause for concern in some areas, as when women complain of being objectified by men. But people regardless of gender have this tendency; it’s a convenience that...

Solving the Sudoku Using Integer Programming

A 9 X9 SUDOKU puzzle has the following rules. Every row and column should have the numbers between 1 and 9 and each of the inner boxes should have the numbers between 1 and 9. Each number in every column and row and in every small box should occur only once. Let us just define Xijk for all values of I, j and k from 1 to 9 to be 1. If the cell (I,j) contains the number k where I, j and k all range between 1 and 9. Here I denotes the ith row and j denotes the jth column and k denotes an integer between 1 and 9. When X134 = 1, it means that the cell (1,3) contains the number 4. This would also imply that none of the other elements of the 1st row or the 3rd column except the cell (1,3) can be equal to 4. In order to model the SUDOKU we will use a total of 729 variables. Let us now algebraically formulate each of the three class of rules. Every row should contain a number between 1 and 9 exactly only once. For the first row, this rule would appear as ( termed as “Constraint” In t...

Machine Learning Along With R Programming: Transforms Your Career and the Best Option Available

WHAT DOES MACHINE LEARNING MEAN? It refers to an application in the field of artificial intelligence that delivers the systems the aptitude to learn automatically and enrich from the experience without being explicitly programmed which means learning to be automated rather than being programmed explicitly. It is concerned with building and developing the computer programs that have the skill set to access the data and then using the data for the purpose of learning. The whole process begins with the sheer volume of data or the observations taking the examples into consideration. Providing the examples or specific instructions to the computer programs help in observing and analyzing the patterns in the data. This would further assist the organizations or the business firms in taking better decisions based on the examples that we provide to the system which varies as per the situation or the business problem. The inclusion of experience into its tasks would eventually enhance the learnin...

Neuro Linguistic Programming Or NLP

With the introduction of Neuro Linguistic Programming or NLP more people are utilizing such sources to achieve greater state of being. The software focuses on the ways in which people may alter thought processes and behaviors. If you are searching for a means of motivation and guidance to achieve your fullest potential consider the resources available to assist in pursuing personal ventures. The program has been specifically designed to aid those wishing to attain personal goals. These can range from weight loss, to promotional opportunities and improving relationships. By achieving a greater sense of mastery over your emotions and thinking patterns, you are better equipped to pursue personal goals through the necessary behavior changes. Eliminating disempowering and false belief systems and replacing with positive core attitudes can assist in working towa...

The Positive And Negative Aspects Of Neuro Linguistic Programming Or NLP

There are both positive and negative aspects of neuro linguistic programming or NLP. Unfortunately, few people have a comprehensive understanding of this term, even though they are subject to it each and everyday. More importantly, many of the companies, organizations and individuals who know how to manipulate this concept, often do so with unethical intentions. NLP is essentially the study of how verbal communication impacts the human brain. The words that you hear are actually responsible for shaping your perceptions, ideas and even your actions. This is the basic idea behind positive reinforcement. In studies, words of encouragement have been shown to create major improvements in attitudes and behaviors. Neuro linguistic programming defines why this works. Conversely, negative words also impact those who hear them. People who are constantly surrounded by negative people will often fall prey to their negative speak. Words of discouragement will usually cause a person to take on a def...

An Overview Of Important Web Programming Languages

Introduction It all began with Tim Berners-Lee at CERN and the good old HTML. CERN, which is now mostly famous for its Large Hadron Collider, has recently gained major publicity by attracting the attention of frivolous news chasing the possibility of a black hole. I think even cooler than a black hole marking the end of humanity, is the virtual world that has largely impacted her evolution. The internet happened partly because of the outcome of CERN’s research and now we have a world beside the real world, functioning in parallel and becoming the flesh and blood of a terrestrial specy who was one day drawing on cave walls. HTML later became lingua franca of a world that was becoming bigger while making our real world smaller and smaller. HTML is the basic language understood by all WWW (World Wide Web) clients. It can execute on a PC under any operating system such as Windows, Mac, Linux, or on a Unix workstation. However, it is limited in its computational power intentionally bec...

NLP - How is Neuro-Linguistic Programming Used?

Let’s start with what is NLP? NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming, which sounds pretty fancy doesn’t it? Simply put NLP has been developed by studying those people who are successful in their lives. Why are they more successful than the rest of us, me and you? They have learnt through training or ‘Programming’ their minds (the ‘Neuro’ part) to respond to language use (the ‘Linguistic’ bit). NLP is used by these successful communicators and high achieving individuals to control certain aspects of their lives to maximise their potential for success. The question you are asking yourself is can you learn these methods as well – of course! These people had a secret that they have shared so now many, many people are practicing NLP in their lives and experiencing the benefits. Some people opt for training so they can become experts and thus help others; some people may just want a fast cure for a phobia, whilst others want to lose ...

Computer Programming Basics - Getting Started the Easy Way

A computer program is made up of a chain of instructions a computer has to perform. These instructions may come with other important data that’s needed to carry out those instructions. Hence, the process of programming involves the defining of the instructions and the data. For you to come up with data for your computer, you should be familiar with computer programming basics and the datas three fundamental elements: 1. Instructions that need to be carried out. 2. Order in which the instructions are to be carried out. 3. Data needed to do the instructions. The first stage of computer programming basically involves paper processes. In this phase, you don’t even need to work using a computer, however if you use a word processor that will enable you to write your work to a disk file rather than in a piece of paper. You need to do this so you can figure out clearly and more specifically, what you want your computer to perform before you begin to instruct the computer to execute ...
